Daranon was one of my favorite characters from my AD&D gaming days. Though he only reached 6th level, he achieved so much over the course of gaming, and the campaign was so well-crafted to what I wanted to do with him (perhaps because it was only a two-character campaign, and Daranon was the DM's favorite... have you ever, as a DM, had a player come up with a character you thought was so cool that *you* wanted to get to play him? If so, you know how my DM felt..) that I've become very, very fond of him.

Daranon is an extremely large man, six foot five and strong as an ox. He has an iron will and an inability to admit defeat that lets him fight on long after another warrior would have fallen or fled. He also has a genius for military science and tactics and his troops do as well in massed combat as he does in one-to-one confrontations. He is honorable and forthright, but despises weaklings, cowards, and priests and has no conception at all of kindness or mercy. He wears dragonscale armor of mottled brown and gray, a midnight black cloak of protection +4, and wields a plain-looking bastard sword +2 of nine lives stealing.

Apparently Cloaks of Protection and armor aren't cumulative in UA, so Daranon's AC is not quite as badass as it was in our old games. Also, since there's no way to implement the special powers of his sword (in our games, it only stole souls on a natural 20, but when it did, it stole the entire soul, not just one or two levels, and it could only steal nine before the magic faded, but each soul it took restored a part of the permanent HPs Daranon lost to the fang dragon's bite), I just made it a longsword +2 that drains one life on a successful hit. Also note that Daranon is immune to fear - it's an ability he had in our games from his fighter kit (cavalier).
