Kurt's Golden Sun Thoughts

I've thrown this page together to showcase some notes about a delightful RPG designed for the Gameboy Advanced. I do not provide hints or tips. Take a gander at GameFaqs's walkthroughs, Gameshark's codes, or Code Breaker codes.

If anyone knows of a good GBA hacking site, with active forums and spreading of information; please contact me. I'm also interested in any source showcasing the encoding or decrypting of Codebreaker codes.

Updated Item Listing
07.22.02

Here's the updated comprehensive Item List with codes to enter into the Gameshark. I've included every item found in the game including the ones that Interact didn't add on their site (the rings and boots)!

Play as Jenna
07.17.02 - updated 07.22.02

My interest in Golden Sun has recently been revitalized by a girl named Saleena. She asked about the code to play as Jenna (shown below at 12.26.01) and I explained to her that it wasn't finished and that it was just a memory address now, not something that could be used in the Gameshark or Codebreaker.

Well, lo and behold, I now have finished the codes and found a program to have them converted to the Gameshark format (feel free to contact me if you have a program to Encrypt/Decrypt Codebreaker codes--preferably with source code).

Anyhow, the directions must be followed to the letter or you can chance screwing some stuff up. Understand that if something goes wrong, you are at fault for using these codes. These codes directly affect your game and I HIGHLY recommend that you use this on a backup save game. Enjoy.

Steps: Explanation:
1 Be sure that you have four party members and that each party member has seven djinn.
2 Move the character to be replaced to the fourth slot.
3 Put all seven of the Wind djinn on that character.
4 Remove any inventory from the character you don't want to lose.
5 Save game to a slot you don't mind overwriting.
6 Restart your GBA with the Gameshark and enter all codes from Box A and the codes from one of the other Boxes.
Box A 92D965F9120129B6 920BAFCF079CAB4B 63595CE799189D50 39CE6BAD8371C2E3 70B45A13ACC32F41 Box B - Isaac Replaced 3E590288D4547025 05DEDD010CFB9A3A 8CD7A70BC78703DA 2282D5A0495B3CAA Box C - Mia Replaced D891CF840F3302DA AEB2E43C2F9623E9 8E765E4BF40F6B25 B924980A48F0339C Box D - Garet Replaced 0409B525A8165A96 C47B64A7B7F83457 1691925C1F6C4506 CC2E0028A2C0D897 Box E - Ivan Replaced 509B1E4452B1A9DB 5E65CC34A1C40385 FFD8A51440FEF151 BB798EEEC5E88BAB
7 Start Golden Sun and load your save from step 5.
8 After verifying that Jenna is there and fine, save the game over the slot from step 5.
9 Restart your GBA with the codes from Step 6 OFF. If you don't turn off the codes, you will not be able to trade djinn and things can get screwy.
10 Witness your friend's amazement as you play against him with Jenna.

VisualBoy Advance End-game save
02.08.02

This file is the battery save from at the height of Venus Tower beside the unused Psynergy stone. This is from my unhacked game, pure vanilla with no edits, changes or anything.

Dark Mage Class
01.11.02

Here's a few screenshots of the Dark Mage class. There's actually quite a few classes available that I've never seen before and I'm curious to see how they are discovered through normal djinn combinations. I'd also like someone to pass a good Japanese FAQ to me as well.

Item List
01.09.02

Here's the comprehensive Item List with codes to enter in VisualBoy Advance. I've included every item found in the game! Take a gander and enjoy.

Masamune and Sol Blade
12.27.01

This, hopefully, will put to rest the rumors that the angelic sword Masamune is not coded into the English version. I'm not saying that it's attainable during normal gameplay; but, it is possible to use. I've also found some other items that have neither been mentioned nor seen before by me.

Sheba, Felix and Jenna
12.26.01

This goes to show my friend John that it is possible to play Jenna later in the game if hacked to add her again. Though, her Psynergy selection is weak as she wasn't fully implemented. I used VisualBoyAdvance version 0.7.1 to discover the code to replace the first character with another. You can attempt to add other characters other than Jenna; but she is the only other playable character that I've found yet. Sheba and Felix can both be added but are unplayable with no stats, unreviveable and are incomplete.

Sheba hacked into party, notice that she has a sprite in the upper left. Maybe she was going to have a larger part in the story?

Felix hacked into party, no sprite in the upper left.
