|5||13||You surprise a woman preparing dinner for her family. 'Oh, hello! I thought my husband was finally home. He spends too much time looking for the rumored secret tunnels. Ever since the last Feast of Spring, he has dedicated his life to recovering the sacred Scepter. It was the only thing that kept us alive for years. Now that it is gone, we must travel far for our water. I was hoping he'd be home by now. One day, I fear, the tunnels will collapse and I shall be left alone without hope or family.'|
|6||4||You hear the sound of an approaching horse but cannot tell how far away until suddenly a horse as black as coal is charging at you from around the corner.

|6||6||You spot a resident looking through his tomes. He looks up and greets you. 'I guess you have been to Stonebridge and know of the tragedy of our two towns. I have been trying for years to duplicate the explosion...created by the Wegman brothers which welded the wand and crystal together to create the Scepter. If by chance the items are found, but Gerard is not, we need a way to reunite them once again. The brothers left no notes on their experiments, which I guess may have been wise. At least we know the Scepter cannot be used by evil for their purposes.'|

Everything has been sold or stolen by those leaving or those here trying to find the Scepter. It will be some time and by then...' She stops as the tears well in her eyes. You mumble your apologies and leave.|

I sense the pieces of the Scepter near, but cannot for the life of me discover their hiding place.'|

Not one has found a clue to their whereabouts. Even if you are lucky enough to find these items, what good are they unless we find Gerard to weld them back together?' He shakes his head in despair and adds your name to the list.|
|10||8||The old guardhouse is filled with belongings from adventurers who have never returned from their quest.|

|10||15||You stop to aid a weary traveler. 'Thank you, my friends.' he says. 'I'm certain that the secret to the missing items and the lost mage lies somewhere along this path. But, each day I wander aimlessly and always end up back in town somehow. Maybe you will have better luck than I!'|
